English translation

And on the authority of Mu'adh ibn Jabal, may Allah be pleased with him, he said: When the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, sent him to Yemen, the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, went out with him, advising him, while Mu'adh was riding and the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was walking beside his mount. When he finished, he said: 'O Mu'adh, you may not meet me after this year of mine, and perhaps you will pass by this mosque of mine and my grave.' Mu'adh wept out of longing for the separation from the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. Then he turned and faced the city and said: 'The closest of people to me are the righteous, whoever they are and wherever they are.' And it was among his sayings, may Allah bless him and grant him peace: 'I have left among you that which you will not go astray after if you hold fast to it: the Book of Allah. And you will be asked about me, so what will you say?' They said: 'We bear witness that you have conveyed, fulfilled, and advised.' Then he said, with his index finger, raising it to the sky and pointing it towards the people: 'O Allah, bear witness. O Allah, bear witness. O Allah, bear witness.'
