Okay, since the sin of backbiting is not expiated even by Hajj, how can Allah Almighty forgive me for the people I have backbitten? Some of them have died, some have left, some have disappeared, and some I no longer know. I cannot gather them all. How does Allah Almighty forgive these sins? Listen to this and keep it for the past, present, and future, and do not forget it. First, you must seek forgiveness from Allah Almighty and repent to Him for this backbiting, and do not let your tongue lead you. Every time you come to a place where they are talking about someone, you go along with them. No, seek forgiveness from Allah Almighty and regret it; this is one of the conditions of repentance: regret for what has passed and resolve not to return to it. This is the first thing. Second, seek forgiveness from Allah Almighty for everyone you have backbitten. Say, 'O Allah, forgive everyone I have backbitten, mistreated, wronged, whose money I have taken, or whom I have struck.' Seek forgiveness for everyone you have backbitten so that if the Day of Resurrection comes, they take their due right, as you have prayed for them and sought forgiveness for them. And if you are able to give charity on their behalf, then that is good upon good, so that you may be absolved by this person and not have to face a reckoning with them on the Day of Resurrection, where they might take from your good deeds or have their bad deeds cast upon you.
